Instagram is a visual platform.
That sounds obvious. But most businesses ignore what that actually means.
Instagram is good for:
• showing your work
• giving people a feel for your brand
• building familiarity over time
It’s not good for:
• long explanations
• dense text
• trying to say everything at once
If your post needs paragraphs to make sense, Instagram is the wrong place for it.
Here are three common mistakes:
1. Treating it like a bulletin board
Posting flyers, announcements, or walls of text.
People don’t go to Instagram to read notices.
They go to see something.
2. Over-explaining in the caption
If the image or video doesn’t carry the message, the post is already struggling.
The caption should support the content—not do all the work.
3. Inconsistent voice and visuals
Every post looks and sounds different, so nothing sticks.
If people can’t recognize your content at a glance, you’re starting over every time.
The goal isn’t to post more.
It’s to post in a way that fits the platform.
Show something real. Keep it simple. Let people get familiar with you.
That’s how Instagram actually works.
